Japan is 100 years ahead on internet speeds.
August 13, 2008

The US has not improved their internet connection speeds by a significant amount in the last number of years.
At the rate it is going at now, It would take the US over 100 years to catch up with Japan’s current connection speeds!
The US continues to lag behind other industrial nations and currently is ranked 15th in the percentage of residents who have broadband access.
The average speed in the US is a slow 2.3 Mbits/s, in Japan it is a speedy 63Mbits/s.
At the moment, the average speed in the US is gaining it a mere 0.4Mbit/s every year, this needs to be improved to facilitate schools, hospitals and to encourage more companies to setup in the US and create more jobs.

Well we’ve come alone way from the 28.8KB/s …but there is still a long way to go before we have perfect streaming…
Yeah, I’m a developer amongst other things, and I can’t say that I’m disappointed in my internet speed. I connect via wireless from anywhere, and it is a heck of a lot faster than the dial up garbage we started with.
