Google patents water-based servers
September 6, 2008

Google has recently applied for a patent for a water based data center.
The system is put out in the middle of sea and is anchored to the ground.
Waves hitting against the platform run through a wave powered electric generator, and generate power for the data center, wind powered and solar powered electric generators are also in place.
Pumps pump water through a seawater-to-freshwater heat exchanger, then that water is then used to cool the servers.
It is an interesting idea, but is it worth all that work? Would the generators generator be enough to power the data center? And what about an internet connection, these servers are useless without that!
Before you even ask, this is not a hoax!
