Asus EeePC 701 4GB review.

July 23, 2008

I picked up the Linux version of the Asus EeePC in PC World for 299.99 Euro.

The EeePC is a sub-notebook (or netbook) which are used for basic tasks, such as the internet, blogging and email.

The EeePC is a lovely slim, light and small laptop, perfect for traveling and is very reasonably priced, The EeePC has such luxuries such as WifiMax and a 1.3MP webcam.

The distro of linux which came pre-installed on the EeePC was Xandros.
This was possibly the worst distro I have ever saw.
It lacked a package manager and it was too user-friendly.

I quickly installed eeeXubuntu,And everything worked right out of the box.
All drivers and basic programmes were already setup,Which saved hours of work.
I was able to connect straight onto my router and access the internet.

For anyone thinking of traveling or just want a new toy to play it,
I recommend the EeePC and make sure you install eeeXubuntu.

I give it 8/10, It lost 2 for the crappy Linux distro, but, it was cheap!
